Cochstedt Airport is located in Eastern Germany – and in the heart of Europe. The airport is situated approx. 37 km Southwest of Magdeburg (approx. pop. 260,000), the capitol of the German State of Saxony-Anhalt – and approx. 190 km West of Central Berlin.
Cochstedt Airport’s excellent infrastructure translates into quick access to the nearby motorway network. Running North of the City of Magdeburg, the A2 Motorway is one of the most important East-West road connections in Germany. The A2 connects the “Ruhrgebiet“ (major metropolitan area in North Rhine-Westphalia) and the Benelux countries with Poland via Berlin – as well as CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries further in the East.
The A9 runs from Berlin to Munich via Nuremberg and is one of the principal North-South motorway routes in Germany. The A2 and A9 motorways can be reached via the A14, which runs just East of Cochstedt Airport.
The connection to the motorway network can be accessed by the following improved highways, all of which were widened to two lanes in each direction: B6/B6n and B81, which can be reached from the airport via the B180.
The major European air cargo and logistics centres in Frankfurt am Main, Cologne, Munich, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Paris and London all offer highly compatible feeder services for trucks travelling normal distances in Europe. This is particularly important with regards to intercontinental freight shipments. Shipments of this type rely on a feeder and distribution system, which primarily uses roads. In this regard, Cochstedt Airport’s strategic geographic location, in relation to the European motorway network, soundly fulfils these respective requirements (refer to distance table below).
